Body camera footage released of officer-involved shooting in Del Norte County

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office is releasing body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting in Crescent City last month that ended with one man dead.

The incident occurred on Aug. 25 when Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a disabled vehicle blocking a driveway at Parkway Drive and Sherwood Lane. When they arrived on the scene deputies say they found a man wielding a knife, later identified as 38-year-old Robert Anderson.

Deputies say that Anderson advanced toward officers with the knife causing deputies to open fire. Officers reportedly performed first aid on Anderson until paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.No officers or civilians were reportedly injured.

Footage of the incident comes from the bodycams of two different deputies on the scene.

Officials say that the incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Northern Division Critical Incident Investigation Team, the CHP MultidisciplinaryAccident Investigation Team, the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office and the California Attorney General’s Office.

Officials said that the footage is being released for transparency with the public.
