
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability on Wednesday released videos and other materials related to theĀ fatal shooting of a man by an on-duty Chicago police officerĀ in Austin on September 6.
According to COPA, officers were responding to a burglary in progress involving suspects who were inside a vehicle. When officers encountered the vehicle in the 800 block of North Waller Avenue, it struck their squad cars, the agency said. One officer then fired his weapon, killing one of the individuals inside. Another suspect was arrested at the scene, and a third fled and has not been apprehended. COPA said a gun was recovered.
Missing from COPAās statement was an element included in CPDās preliminary statement regarding the shooting, released within hours of the incident: the carās driver, CPDās statement said, reversed āpinningā a police officer.

Videos released on Wednesday shed more light on what happened.
In the newly released footage, two squad cars block the suspectās vehicle and officers are seen loudly yelling and pulling on the carās door handles with their guns drawn. At one point, the officer who fires his weapon is seen rounding the back of the suspectās moving vehicle when a loud crash is heard, followed by the officer screaming in pain. He then fires about 11 rounds through the vehicleās rear window.
Dashcam footage shows officers removing two men from the front passenger side of the vehicle while a third person runs from the rear driver-side door and escapes.Ā
