🚨😱Terrifying moment fairground ‘Superstar’ ride breaks apart injuring woman, 19, as revellers run from falling debris

A spine-chilling video shows the panel breaking free of the fast-moving fairground ride in Chester, Cheshire.

What should have been a fun day of festivities at the annual ‘Chestival’ fair at the University of Chester ended up in a ride nightmare.

The popular ‘Superstar’ ride, dubbed a thrilling “whirlwind at super speed”, collided at Exton Park Campus last March 27.

Footage shows the heart-stopping moment a panel broke free from the fast-moving attraction hurtling towards the ground. 

The impact sent shattered glass flying in all directions – with adrenaline junkies running from the area.

Ambulance Service was called to the site after two people were reported injured. 

Caitlin Colclough, from Kidsgrove, was rushed to Countess of Chester Hospital.

According to her mother, the 19-year-old had a concussion and whiplash, and underwent a CT scan.

Mandy Hancock, who spent the weekend in Chester caring for her daughter, said: “I was crying my eyes out watching the video.

When I watched in slow motion it was very, very scary. It has given me a few nightmares.

“I don’t know if she heard the bang or not, because obviously there was a lot of screaming on the ride from people on it and enjoying it.

“The piece landed on them, but the ride kept going. I thought it would have had an emergency stop.”

Although the CT scan came back all clear, the mum said the injury will take a few weeks to heal. 

She added: “They said the concussion can take a few weeks to resolve. She’s having blurred vision and really bad headaches, and she’s going dizzy when she stands up which makes her feel sick.”

Ms Hancock has now slammed the University and Students’ Union for how they handled the incident. 

After the accident, her daughter received limited support, she said. 

She added: “My concern was not just for Caitlin, but I couldn’t find any further information or anything. 

“All that the Students’ Union published was that they were working with the Health and Safety Team.

“It’s disappointing how it has been handled post-accident. The support that has been in place has been very limited.

“I know it was the Easter weekend, but just a note under her door would have gone a long way, just to say ‘give us a call on this number if you need anything.’”

Chester Students’ Union said the students affected are being offered support by the university. 

Chief Executive Officer of Chester Students’ Union Jamie Morris said: “There was an incident involving a fairground ride at Chestival (a Chester Students’ Union organised event held at Exton Park Campus) on Wednesday, March 27, and the ride was closed immediately.

“Two students were taken to hospital as a precaution and were discharged on the same day.
